It was all very well having decided to just grab Steel and kiss him; that was the easy part. Carrying it out is hard.
Where did I do it?
How did I do it?
What was his reaction going to be? Don't forget how strong he is, and whilst we elements heal quickly, Steel could severely damage me.
We're on an assignment, Steel, Sapphire and me, but I can't do it now. He's too busy. He has Sapphire and I doing his bidding, while he takes care of everything else.
Suddenly something hits me, not anything physical, but something in my mind. I cry out. I fall to the ground. I'm in such pain. I hear Sapphire call my name and then . . .
And then nothing. A cool hand is placed on my brow. It's cooler than normal temperature, and for a moment it helps.
Then it hits me again. It's a vision. But I don't get visions. I'm not Sapphire; I'm just a lowly technician. Maybe that's why it hurts so much. It's not right.
"Silver." It's Steel's voice. "What is it?"
But I can't reply. I see it so clearly. It's a vision of the future. Steel old, dying, battered. But that's not possible, we don't age. We can't age. Yet Steel has. Then I hear him. He says my name and then -
It goes. The vision goes. But somehow I know what it meant. Somehow I know what I have to do.
His hand is still on my brow. I clamp my own hand around it and pull. Against his greater strength I shouldn't be able to move him. I do.
Without further thought I put my hand around his head and kiss him. I go on kissing him, waiting for him to push me away.
